It all started with the check engine light on my car at the end of last week. As I was making a quick trip to town, the check engine light of our car came on. It wasn’t running rough or making any strange noises so I wasn’t too concerned that I wouldn’t make it back home.
The next day, the light went out so we figured it was a fluke thing with the gas cap. Before I knew it, the check engine light came back on and the engine was running a little rough. This time, the light did not go out. Time to schedule an appointment to have it looked at. We dropped it off at the dealership on Saturday.
On Monday, I stayed home from work because a man was coming to the house to check my mom’s air conditioner. Water had been dripping from the overflow drain. I was a bit anxious to have her unit checked out because sometime over the weekend water was no longer coming from that drain. Her inside unit is in the attic and I was envisioning that both drains were clogged and the pan was overflowing.
I do a lot of things around the house that most women don’t do, but air conditioning is not one of them. Needless to say, I was on pins and needles until the A/C tech arrived.
Oddly enough, he found that the main drain had started working again. He blew out both lines just to make sure they were wide open, and that was all he needed to do on her system.
I had him check our system out because it seemed like it was running a lot. He said everything checked out fine except that the inside unit (ours is in a closet in the hallway) needed to be pulled and cleaned.
Given how expensive that is plus the fact that the unit is 35 years old, that’s not going to happen; next thing you know the coils will spring a leak. So I will do the best I can to clean them with it in place.
Now, I know I said that I don’t do air conditioning but it is really little more than cleaning involved. The space I have to crawl in is too small for my husband to fit so I will be the one to vacuum as much of the coils as I can reach. Yes, I have actually done this before; and no, it is not fun.
Earlier that morning, I was clearing out some weeds from around the satellite dish to make it easier for the repairman to get to it. The television in the guesthouse has not worked in a while, so I decided it was time to get it fixed.
In a freak accident while doing the weed clearing, one of my cats, Sam, got his foot hung up in the netting round the garden box where I was working. The poor guy must have thought that he was going to die a horrible death because he was screaming at the top of his lungs.
I had to pick him up to free his foot but apparently that scared him even more because he grabbed me with his claws and sunk his teeth into my arm at my wrist. Fortunately, his foot was simultaneously released from the netting and after I let go of him, he ran away as fast as he could.
While I stared at the blood starting to come out of multiple places on my arm, I wondered how badly Sam was hurt. Deciding that he could be in worse shape than me, I went to look for him.
Obviously traumatized from the whole experience, Sam would not let me get near him. My only consolation was that he did not appear to be limping as he ran away from me. After several futile attempts to get him to come to me, he went into hiding. I was severely grieved.
Much to my surprise, towards evening Sam reappeared as if nothing had happened. He came into the house and let me look him over completely. He had no cuts that I could see, and he did not appear to be hurting, whew!
The very next day, which was Tuesday, I was bringing the garbage can back from the street when I felt pain in my hand. Fire ants had been hiding in the handle of the can and they attacked me as I started to move it. I received about 8-10 bites in an area the size of a dime.
Fortunately, the rest of the week finished out better than it started. We got some welcomed rain and much welcomed cooler temperatures. The high for Tuesday was a very comfortable 75 degrees.
Wednesday was a bit warmer but still not like a normal August day. Thursday, it only cost me $50 to get my car back from the dealership. They replaced an oxygen sensor, which was covered under the warranty.
Oh, and by the way, my new phone came Monday evening! It took some time to get it all set up, but I love my new phone.
Have a great weekend, and a blessed next week.
