When it comes to the weather in Texas, it can be unpredictable and it certainly changes fast. Temperature swings of 30 to 40 degrees in one day is not uncommon. Neither is it uncommon for it to be raining when the sun is shining.
Texans often consider their state to be a country of its own, with unique culture that has come to define not only the people, but is a way of life. Stubborn to the core and fiercely independent, these family oriented people tend to do things their own way.
When it comes to the predictions of a sleepy groundhog located thousands of miles away, Texans have a hard time believing that an animal that doesn’t even live in Texas knows anything about Texas weather.
Armadillos, however, are everywhere in Texas. As unique as the people themselves, armadillos have a very real place in Texas culture. So it is no surprise that it the beloved armadillo should be in charge of predicting when spring will arrive in Texas.
Located in the Hill Country region, northwest of Austin in the town of Bee Cave is Bob, the official predictor of springtime in Texas. Bee Cave Bob predicted an early spring this year, same as last year. I have to say, he was spot-on last year; the last frost we had was in February.
It so happens that Armadillo Day is on the same day as Groundhog Day. I doubt that it will ever have a movie made after it, but I think that is just fine with most Texans who prefer to be original about most everything.
I’m thinking that Bee Cave Bob got his prediction for an early spring right again this year. On Tuesday, that was February 27th, I saw a toad hopping around. On Wednesday evening, February 28th, I heard frogs singing. And on March 1st dandelions were blooming in the yard.
On Saturday, my husband mowed the yard, I began preparing my garden boxes for planting lettuces, kale, and spinach. Our plum tree is in bloom and it looks like the peach tree will be soon. I just hope that we get the rain we need throughout the spring.
I’m going to change gears a little bit now. I hope that this week’s blog finds you well, in good health and spirits. My regular readers have noticed that over the last year I have not always gotten my weekly post out.
As much as I enjoy sharing my everyday life with you, I believe that it is time for me to take a break from my weekly blog. There are several projects that I have been working on, as well as some additional training that I have been taking which take up a lot of my time. I feel that I can better serve my clients and my followers by focusing more on those things.
I will still write my monthly newsletter because I feel that it is valuable information that can help many people even if I don’t know who they are. And I will certainly keep everyone informed of the new things that I am offering.
In March, I will run the first detox of the year. I will be sure to let you know the dates for signing up and when it starts. Early spring is a great time to help your body transition from winter to springtime; it makes you feel so good.
I also wanted to announce that I made a few changes to the home page of my website. I felt I needed a new look—one that hopefully will resonate with more people.
As always, feel free to drop me a line and let me know how you are doing; I would love to hear from you.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend.
