My apologies to you for not posting in my blog last week; I had every intention to. Last week I was on vacation with my husband. Initially, I had considered taking the week off from writing. But since my blog is so new, I was resolved not to miss a week.
Quality time with my husband, away from all the hustle and bustle, and the infinitely long to-do list was exactly what we needed. It was really nice not having anything to worry about except planning the day. We got up in the morning when we wanted to and enjoyed our day.
We enjoy fishing when we can, and this was the perfect fishing vacation. We rented a house on Cedar Creek Lake, with a dock. It’s such a relaxing and peaceful place. The house is like a cabin inside, and beautifully furnished. It sits in the middle of some trees, and the back yard is shaded and cool. There are plenty of birds, squirrels and ducks to complete the peaceful setting. It is a short, shady walk to our boat that is tied to the dock.
For the most part, the weather was great. The rainy spell seemed to be over, which meant plenty of sunshine. Of course, the temperatures were more seasonable, meaning in the 90’s. And, there were a few afternoon thunderstorms that cooked up pretty fast in that heat.
More than once we found ourselves racing across the lake to get back to our cabin. When a storm like that arrives, it always has enough wind to make the water rough and choppy. Lightening is a scary thing, and there is no place to hide on the open water. Thanks to my husband’s superb boating skills, we made it back safely every time.
Thursday was our wedding anniversary. We drove into Athens to visit the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center which has a number of large aquariums and has several rooms dedicated to the history of fishing in Texas. Now, if you are thinking, “That doesn’t sound very romantic”, or “Seriously, is that all you could find to do?”, well let me assure you, I had a great time. I really did enjoy seeing the fish in the aquariums and seeing record fish caught around the state. But I honestly just enjoy spending time with my husband; it really doesn’t matter what we are doing.
Our anniversary dinner turned out to be a late lunch. We couldn’t decide where to go, so I said that I thought it would be romantic if we just went for pizza! We stopped at an Italian restaurant that was recommended to us. Our waiter said the pizzas were fantastic. We got the manager’s special which has everything on it except anchovies and jalapenos. It was pretty darn good. We usually make our own pizzas at home, with gluten free crust and tomato sauce made from our own home-grown tomatoes, so this pizza was a real “cheat meal”. We topped off our anniversary lunch with cheesecake. I can’t remember the last time I had cheesecake.
On occasion, we eat outside of our normal diet; usually it’s a treat. I don’t feel the least bit guilty about it either. One meal isn’t going to ruin my health. I like eating healthy and wholesome foods, but when I choose to have some that is totally not good for me, I make sure that it is amazing to my taste buds.
The week flew by. I didn’t want it to end. I just couldn’t bring myself to interrupt our last day of relaxation with writing my blog. I need total silence to write, and I didn’t want to sequester myself in another part of the house for a few hours to write my weekly summation of the week’s events. So, at the last minute, I decided to just skip a week. Surely my readers would understand. Who likes to work during their vacation? Not very many people.
So in the end I knew I made the right decision. I stayed true to myself, and made the most of my quality time with my husband. Next year I will let you know in advance that there will not be a post to my blog while I am on vacation. Thanks for understanding.
