This week has been incredibly long. I have been working on a project at my day job, which has not been going well. I ended up staying late at work almost every day this week.
I am installing equipment underneath a counter, where there is little room. I literally have to crawl part way into the cabinet to do the work. I have to lay on my side over top of a metal rail.
My side feels bruised because I have to lay on the rail to use both of my hands. Even though I have followed the installation instructions, I cannot get the equipment to work properly.
I have had good technical support, and a technician from the National Weather Service helping me (I am attempting to interface with his equipment). Everyone has been so patient and pleasant to work with; I am grateful.
I managed to go home on time Friday, despite the fact that I still don’t have things working properly. I decided that I would not think about it over the weekend, and just look at it with fresh eyes on Monday.
Saturday, we helped our son replace the heating element in his clothes dryer. It was a first time for all of us, but together we were successful. We were glad to be able to save him and his wife some money by doing it ourselves.
Saturday evening, we ate a lovely steak dinner at home prepared by my wonderful husband. We don’t eat steaks very often, maybe a couple times a month, so it is a real treat. We forgot to buy sweet potatoes, so we had organic peas, and organic corn.
I bought some red wine to go with dinner. I found a nice Merlot that I hadn’t tried before. It was a great way to finish off the day. The plan after dinner was to watch a movie and pop some organic popcorn on the stove, but we were too full from dinner so we just watched TV instead.
The wine was one of the better Merlots that I have had, so I have to admit that I am enjoying a glass of it while I write. I certainly do not want it to go to waste. We will finish it off today, for sure.
I drink alcohol on rare occasion, mostly due to health reasons. Beer really antagonizes my kidneys causing them to ache; it also seems to promote bladder infections, so no beer for me. Plus, I don’t think that beer is any better for you than sugar. It destroys the friendly flora in your intestines, and promotes inflammation and weight gain.
I like an occasional glass of red wine, but I have to be careful. Some red wines will trigger a migraine; especially the cheap ones. Now, red wine is supposed to have some health benefits like being good for your heart, but I just don’t want to risk the migraine. This particular wine has treated me well.
Several days last week the temperature dropped below freezing overnight. I was unsure if I should cover my young Brussels sprouts plants, so I left them uncovered. I am pleased to announce that they came through the light frosts just fine.
I will get a couple more plants this week. I am trying to get plants of different ages so that they don’t all produce the same week. I will have six plants total, so if I space out their harvest we will have several weeks’ worth.
Next week should be warm again, and the perfect time to plant more cold hardy plants like Brussels sprouts. My attention is being drawn outside, and I am wanting to start getting ready for spring. Our garden boxes need repaired, which is no small task.
Due to all the rain we got in the last two years, the bottom of one of the 8 foot by 2 foot boxes fell out. I will have to shovel all that dirt out of the way so that I can move the box to relevel it and replace the bottom. Then, of course, I have to put all that dirt back into the box.
There is still a lot of unrest in this country, and I expect that it will be that way for a while. I am trying to keep my spirits up and not letting things in the news bother me. I have never like drama, and I personally believe that whatever my circumstances are, I will make the best of things.
I am focusing on the positives of my day, no matter how small. I have so many things to be grateful for that I am going to practice smiling and being a bright spot in other people’s world. Hopefully, by doing that I can help others find the bright side to their day.
