Sometimes, when heading towards something new life seems to speed up; not always, but sometimes. It sure has for me, but I got to share in more than my own new chapter starting.
In the last couple of weeks, not only did I start a new chapter but my daughter and my stepson have both started transitions and new chapters. Together, with my husband, we are all supporting one another.
Within the last couple of weeks, I joined the local chamber of commerce. It is my desire to make a positive impact in the community. I am working on a series of free talks to give various groups around the community. This will officially begin my public speaking chapter.
I am excited to share my knowledge with others on a larger scale than one on one with clients. And I will be meeting lots of people around the area. It’s great when we reach out and support each other.
We have also been busy preparing for a couple of moves. On the 18th, we helped my daughter move into a new apartment. It is her first apartment without roommates.
She has been looking forward to a place of her own since she started college. Until now, she has lived in a furnished apartment with only a bed to call her own. She did a lot of searching to find an apartment she could afford, and I think she made a good choice.
Since she had to wait several weeks to move into her new apartment, we had time for furniture shopping. Mostly, we shopped online and looked in furniture catalogs because we were working with a local furniture store. She found what she wanted and they gave her a great price on all of it.
Upon moving into the new apartment, there were several things that needed immediate attention from management. We found that the apartment had not been cleaned, several things needed to be fixed, and the carpet was old and dirty.
Initially, it seemed like it was going to be a less than pleasant experience living in that apartment for the next year as this was quite a let-down. But after the initial shock subsided, she called the leasing office and spoke to the manager. My daughter’s demeanor was calm, assertive, and professional and she was not disappointed with the manager’s response.
A cleaning service was sent over immediately, the maintenance crew came over to fix the stove, and the manager ordered new carpet for the apartment. I was so proud of my baby girl who was obviously quite grown up.
A few days later, we helped my stepson move some of his things to a storage unit across town which is close to where his office is going to be opening in a couple of months.
We are all very much excited for this new chapter in his life as a self-employed doctor of chiropractic. It will be a brand new office located inside of a medical complex next to a major hospital.
I have no doubt that he is going to be successful since he is a very popular doctor at the office at which he has been working until construction on his own office is completed. All his hard work is paying off and we couldn’t be more proud of him.
As we look toward the future, one has to look back to see how far we have come, individually and as a family. Our kids are no longer children. It’s exciting to see them growing in wisdom and experience while discovering which paths of life to pursue.
As for myself, I guess you could say that I am a real and relevant example of the fact that there is always room for growth if you have the desire to keep learning and striving for improving yourself.
Of course, we are inherently short-sighted. When I was in my twenties, I could not fathom the life I have now or any of the paths that I took that lead me here. Sometimes, I think it is better that way otherwise, we may not take certain risks or go on certain adventures.
Happiness is mostly about perception, and choosing to make the best of each situation along with applying lessons learned is the best way to head into the future.
Wherever in the world you are, I hope you stay safe. The coast of Texas has taken quite a beating from hurricane Harvey, and many other areas will be getting quite a bit of rain. Use caution, and help others where you can.
Have a great weekend!
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
