I have to say that this past week has been pretty good. I always get inspired after I’ve had some time off. Thanksgiving was all about family, and it was a fabulous day. The weekend consisted of just the “old folks” at home since my daughter had to go back to work Saturday. The rain and the mud, combined with fabulous leftovers, made for a lazy weekend.
Monday meant back to work, and I can say that I was ready to get some things done. I also started feverishly working on the new website, again. It took me all week (and a couple of program updates) to get things looking the way I want them to look. I also started thinking about the topic of the newsletter for December.
The conclusion that all of this has led me to is that I love to create things. Whether I am making Christmas presents with essential oils, designing my website, or writing, I am happy. It’s always kind of been my thing to come up with a solution to a need by some unconventional means. But this is different.
Writing, in particular, has always seemed to satisfy my soul. Whether I was turning my heartbreak into poetry, being philosophical, writing fiction for fun, or compiling the copious amounts of health related research that I do into an intelligible document, I get a lot of satisfaction from it.
To go along with that, I love learning things. I have always been an avid reader. I like both fiction and non-fiction. Being a health coach allows me to read as much as I want to read on topics that I find very interesting. I really enjoy taking all the information that I gather and putting it into a common sense article for others to read. And I get to stay up to date on the latest research and studies that are published.
I think all too often, when we think about self-discovery, we focus on the negative things about our self. While there can be a lot of benefit from learning what is holding us back, we need to balance that practice with discovering the good things about our self. Discovering our talents and the things that we are passionate about can help us to handle the stressful things that come up for everyone.
There are a variety of things that people do just because it separates them from whatever is bothering them. Journaling, volunteering, gardening, writing, building things, and making crafts are all examples of ways that people release stress by giving of themselves.
An important part of my practice is helping to improve an individual’s quality of life by bringing the emotional and mental parts into balance, as well as the physical part. That’s why my title is “Health and Wellness Coach”. For a person to be truly happy, they need to have all of those parts of their life in balance. The path to get there is different for everyone. I love my job because I am passionate about helping others.
There is no lack of things that can get us unbalanced on a daily basis. I feel it too. Money, work, family, especially this time of year. I am going to try to let the holiday spirit help me soar through the rest of the year. I love Christmas time. I may start decorating the house this weekend. Maybe we will get our Christmas tree, too. I don’t usually start decorating this soon, but getting an early start on buying Christmas presents has gotten me in the Christmas spirit early. It feels good.
If the weather holds and it isn’t too windy, I think I will try to put the Christmas lights on the house, on Sunday. We also have, I think literally, a ton of pecans to pick up out of the yard. There are probably more pecans than the entire neighborhood can use; but I hate to see them just lying there in the yard. I wish I had a good way of selling them. I think even if I just got one dollar per pound, I would be happy. We will see how ambitious we are!
This weekend, do something that brings you great joy; and as this next week rolls around, try to re-live those moments when you had no worries or stress. Let those memories help you to release anything that is overwhelming you. Choose to be happy.
Colossians 3:23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
